
Eight mini-exhibits featuring Anti-VD posters from WWII, Surgery Taught by Stereoscope, Cure by the “Royal Touch,” and more.
This exhibit, prepared by curator Susan Wheeler, explores the range and riches of the Historical Collections through eight separate displays and includes rare books, antique instruments, early prints and photographs, and other objects.
Some highlights –
- The popular “Stereo-Clinic” (1911-1913) produced by surgeon Howard Kelly
- Gold “touchpieces” bestowed by English King Charles II for the cure of scrofula
- Early obstetrical forceps and illustrated instructions for their use (1754)
- Last will and testament (published 1753) of Sir Hans Sloane (1660-1753) president of the Royal Society, whose remarkable collections became a foundation of the British Museum
- Turn-of-the century “cure-all” advertisements
